Ultimaker PP (Polipropylen) Natural

Tolerant to fatigue and chemically resistant polypropylene is a widely used industrial material.

Ultimaker PP (polypropylene) offers excellent resistance to temperature, chemicals and resistance to fatigue as well as electrical resistance. Its durability and low coefficient of friction make it an ideal material for prototyping and creating durable models for final applications. Polypropylene itself is one of the widely used materials in industry and one of the most commonly used plastics in the world.

  • Stable with high strength and resistance to fatigue (PP retains its shape after twisting and bending)
  • Low friction and smooth surfaces
  • Good thermal resistance (up to 105 ° C)
  • Semi flexible
  • Chemically resistant to a wide range of bases and acids, including industrial cleaners
  • The high electrical resistance makes it a good electrical insulator
  • High resistance to moisture
  • transparent
  • It has a low density which translates into light parts with a high strength to weight ratio
  • Excellent interlayer adhesion
  • Adequate substrate adhesion and low shrinkage, especially when using Ultimaker adhesive labels
  • With the possibility of recycling, to reduce the impact on the environment
  • Durable, chemically resistant and light

HOW TO PRINT WITH ULTIMAKER PP

Preconfigured profiles for PP material are prepared and tested on Ultimaker 3 and Ultimaker 2+ printers. The instructions given here only apply to these printers and assume the use of the latest version of Cura (2.6.1 or newer) and the latest firmware for your printer.

RECOMMENDED SETTINGS

Temperature

The Ultimaker PP can be printed at a table temperature of 85 - 100 ° C and a nozzle temperature of 205 - 240 ° C.

Note: On the Ultimaker 3, the temperature of the nozzle and table on the first layer may be different due to the settings of the Cura "Print Temperature Initial Layer" and "Build Plate Temperature Initial Layer".

The settings from the table are used for the Ultimaker PP profile in the cura program according to the printer model. For the best results, it is necessary to select the correct printer, nozzle diameter and material in the Cura program. Also, make sure that the right material is also selected in the printer.

Cooling

For the best print quality, the default fan speed for the Ultimaker PP material is 10-20%. This ensures smooth surfaces (especially overhangs) and good bridging. Avoid excessive cooling to prevent warping of the printed object.

Grip to the table

Ultimaker PP has a tendency to curl up. Using the right method of providing table adhesion (eg: Ultimaker adhesive labels) is crucial for obtaining high quality prints.

Additional accessories

The use of Ultimaker adhesive labels (available separately or in the UM3 accessories kit) is highly recommended when printing with Ultimaker PP. This ensures optimal adhesion to the table. Using glue as an alternative method is not possible because it does not provide sufficient adhesion on larger prints

For protection against bending and warping, we also recommend using the front cover available in the UM3 accessories kit. Thanks to it, a stable temperature environment is created inside the printing chamber, which significantly improves the quality of prints and prevents them from distorting.

Adhesion settings in the Cura program

All default profiles for the Cura Ultimaker PP material use a relatively large brim (20 - 25 mm) as an additional element to improve grip. Brim is an additional "envelope" around the printed object which increases the surface of the object adjacent to the table. Please note that using the brim reduces the effective working area of the printer.

Security

Ultimaker PP is safe to print under the condition of sowing the recommended temperatures indicated above. We recommend printing in well-ventilated rooms to ensure greater security and minimize possible risks.

NOTE: The information provided refers to the material Ultimaker PP printed in 3D printers Ultimaker 2+ (Extended) or Ultimaker 3 (Extended). PP material from other manufacturers may require different parameter values.
