Key parameters of the Formlabs Form 4L 3D printer

Optimized print settings

Formlabs engineers have tested a wide range of materials and 3D models to ensure that each material meets reliable 3D printing standards right out of the box. PreForm software offers pre-built print profiles, saving you time spent manually configuring settings.

Light source - 145 LEDs with collimating lenses

Formlabs Form 4L printer features a backlight module that generates a uniform, high-powered light projection area using 145 LEDs and collimating lenses. The system cures resins quickly and precisely, ensuring high print speeds with excellent build quality and accuracy anywhere on the build plate.

Intelligent control systems

Form 4L features 6 enhanced sensors that precisely monitor resin temperature, material level, print force, and print process status. Automatic resin heating to 25–45°C (depending on material) ensures optimal viscosity and consistent results from the first print. A built-in camera allows remote monitoring and process management from any location.

Open material system

Form 4L features an open material system, allowing you to work with both Formlabs resins and those from other manufacturers. New-generation cartridges ensure automatic resin replenishment during printing – the system quickly and accurately dispenses material, eliminating the risk of print interruption due to resin shortage. Material replacement takes less than 1 minute.

Resin tank

A flexible and durable resin tank ensures consistent, high-quality prints. The tank's design minimizes the forces acting on the model during printing – LFD (Low Force Display) technology reduces stress, resulting in higher accuracy and longer tank life.

Post-processing devices

Form Wash

Form Wash - a washer used to rinse models of uncured resin residue. A special holder allows you to mount the worktable with the print directly on the device or place the model in a basket. A built-in impeller circulates the isopropyl alcohol (IPA), ensuring effective rinsing of the material from every detail. After finishing, the device automatically removes the model from the IPA, reducing the risk of print damage.

Form Cure

Form Cure - a station for exposing and curing prints. The device is designed for fully automatic operation – simply select predefined settings for a specific resin on the touchscreen, insert the model, and turn on the device. Form Cure will automatically select the operating time and temperature. Custom settings are also possible.

Applications of the Formlabs Form 4L 3D printer

Due to its parameters and features, the Formlabs Form 4L 3D printer is designed for applications in the automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, and education industries. The Form 4L is a solution for rapid prototyping, the production of fixtures and jigs, spare and end parts, and personalized tools. The large build volume (353 × 196 × 350 mm) allows for printing large objects in a single run or many smaller items simultaneously.

Frequently Asked Questions - Formlabs Form 4L 3D Printer

The Form 4L utilizes LFD (Low Force Display) technology. The light source consists of 145 LEDs with collimating lenses that generate a uniform, high-power projection. LFD technology reduces the forces acting on the model during printing, resulting in higher accuracy and longer resin tank life compared to traditional LCD/DLP printers.

Form 4L has an open material system, supporting Formlabs resins (standard, engineering, flexible, foundry, and more) as well as third-party resins compatible with 405nm UV technology. The PreForm software includes predefined print profiles for Formlabs materials.

The Form 4L has a larger build volume (353 × 196 × 350 mm vs. 200 × 125 × 210 mm) and two resin cartridges (vs. one in the Form 4). The Form 4L prints at up to 80 mm/h, while the Form 4 prints at up to 100 mm/h. The Form 4L is designed for printing larger models and mass production, while the Form 4 is for smaller components and rapid prototyping.

Two new-generation cartridges automatically feed resin into the tank during printing. This system eliminates the need for manual refilling and allows for continuous printing without the worry of running out of resin. Cartridge replacement takes less than a minute.

The Form 4L works with three Formlabs tools: PreForm (preparing models for printing, support optimization, slicing), Dashboard (printer management, status monitoring, material usage analysis), and Fleet Control (printer fleet management, automatic job queuing). The printer supports STL, OBJ, and 3MF files.

Yes. Resin prints require washing of uncured resin (Form Wash) and UV curing (Form Cure). Both devices are available from GLOBAL 3D. Form Wash automatically rinses models in isopropyl alcohol, while Form Cure cures prints with predefined settings for each material.

Yes. GLOBAL 3D offers Formlabs printers with delivery to the Polish market, implementation training (in-person or online), and technical support. A team of specialists can help you select the printer configuration, materials, and post-processing equipment best suited to your intended applications.
