Just a month before the official launch of a new game called "Overwatch", the company received a proposal to help recreate the Widow (the beautiful, playable hero / villain of the game). The client had a CAD model of the uniform, but had a problem with how to turn an ordinary man into a relentless sniper, since the physical proportions of the CAD drawings and the women did not match?

It was very helpful to perform a 3D scan of the person who will be wearing the costume. This made it possible to make a change in the design of the armor in such a way that it fit well and at the same time did not restrict movement. To get an accurate model quickly, the cosplayer is scanned at full height with a 3D scanner in the so-called T pose (this position is often used in the visual effects and animation industry). This type of scanning is not an easy task: although it only takes a few moments, the person being scanned must maintain a stable position and not move their hands.

Due to the scanning speed and ease of use, scanning with the Calibry scanner only took a minute and the final model was ready in less than 10 minutes. Using this 3D full body scan, the designer tailored the costume to the woman's proportions. Among other things, the Move function in ZBrush was used, which allows you to stretch areas of the model the way you work with clay. To make the costume parts suitable for 3D printing, the elements have been optimized using the DynaMesh tools in Zbrush.

To make the plastic armor printed in 3D technology more comfortable, a layer of material was placed under the foil. For this, we used Boolean subtraction to create space in the 3D model for this material. Here again, the scanned 3D model came in handy. The last step was to get rid of the polygon mesh (using ZBrush) and the model was ready to print!
