As objectively – AutoScan Inspec

In today's episode of our small series of scanners that the GLOBAL3D.pl team works with, we would like to introduce you to the device of the well-known Shining 3D company - AutoScan Inspec. Scanner designed for scanning small and complex objects based on blue LED light. Readers of our texts and people dealing with scanners basically do not need to introduce Shining3D - but for all others who start or want to start their adventure with scanners a few words of explanation should be given.

Shining 3D is a successful, experienced manufacturer of 3D printers and 3D scanners. Since 2004, the company has been developing its own ecosystem consisting of hardware, printed materials and cloud storage services. The main goal of the company is definitely the production of devices for professionals, but in 2020 the manufacturer has decided to expand its offer also with devices for 3D technology enthusiasts. Shining 3D products are characterized by a low price compared to their western counterparts and excellent functionality and quality of scans, which is equal to the most expensive devices on the market.

As for the scanner itself, the manufacturer presents it as: The AutoScan Inspec 3D scanner by SHINING 3D is a fully automatic stationary 3D scanner that ensures high accuracy and efficiency. AutoScan Inspec is designed to scan small and complex parts. The latest technology developed by SHINING 3D allows you to improve scanning efficiency and save valuable time. The AutoScan Inspec 3D scanner can be used in inspection and quality control, reverse engineering and product design.

Can you agree with this description? We hope that the text below will answer this question.

AutoScan Inspec

First of all, the scanner is a desktop device, its workplace is a desk or a workbench. The objects we scan on it are so small that we scan them calmly while sitting in a warm office or workshop, listening to our favorite radio while sipping coffee. The device is quite large and weighs a little over 7 kilograms, but the all-in-one design and perfectly matched elements for this aesthetic design in black and blue colors give this device a premium class and look.

After removing it from a large transport box, we get what Shining has already got its users used to. A well-made black cardboard box. In the middle, in a very well-fitted and cut foam, our scanner and its accessories rest; in the form of additional table mounts and cabling.

Connecting the scanner itself to the computer takes a few minutes. Two cables are plugged into the device; one power supply the other USB for connection to the computer. Proprietary Shining 3D software created for this model -UltraScan installs quickly and hassle-free. Thanks to that, we can scan in a short time.

Technical parameters

The AutoScan Inspec scanner is, as we mentioned at the beginning, a device designed for scanning small and complex objects, so the scanning field is quite small 100mm x 100mm x 75mm, but thanks to this we can count on perfect object mapping with an accuracy of approx. 10 microns. The mechanism of data acquisition from the scanned object is based on blue structural LED light. This type and color of light is better than white light in mapping complex and small surfaces. The scanner is also equipped with two cameras with a resolution of 5 MPx that perfectly collect information during their work.

As a desktop and all-in-one device, the scanned object is placed on the scanner's built-in arm, which moves in three axes during operation, ensuring almost 100% of the surface of the scanned object.

If it is necessary to rotate the object, Shining 3D in his device implemented the FlipScan function, thanks to which we are able to rotate the object 180 degrees and continue working, and then the AI algorithms will connect our models on their own. While in the case of objects consisting of a large number of characteristics, this option works perfectly well, if we scan things with little different geometry, this option seems a bit confusing and lost. However, we do not have to get frustrated because of this, because we can easily use manual adjustment of scans. At Global3D, at the request of our clients, we have so far conducted tests of jewelery and coin scanning. These scans were to be used to digitize numismatic collections and, in the case of jewelry, to redesign existing models.

Another aspect worth mentioning is the use of the Shining 3D-AutoScan Inspec scanner for quality control. As it is a metrological class device confirmed by certificates, we can use it as a surface control as well as in the control of deviations from reference models.

To sum up, the Shining 3D-AutoScan Inspec scanner is a device that will meet the needs of a very specific user. It is not as versatile as the EinScan PRO series, or rather it is versatile only on a micro scale. It can easily be used in quality control, precision production, reverse engineering as well as in jewelery and numismatics. We also see potential in dentistry and orthodontics, but rather in modeling casts made of impressions. It is also possible that it will help in the production of small assembly or structural elements that usually cannot be bought just like that in the store because they are usually attached to a larger item.

We have no objections to the quality of the scans we receive, Shining 3D has already accustomed us to high quality at a reasonable price. Because when it comes to the price, this is also acceptable and is around 55-57 thousand. PLN net.
