The Filament Maker TWO has an advanced monitoring system that allows real-time control. The extruder is additionally equipped with a 3-axis filament sensor (10 μm resolution, > 25 measurements per second) that measures the ovality of the filament and an infrared thermal imaging camera that measures the surface temperature of the filament before the material is wound onto the spool, ensuring consistent filament quality, especially for high-temperature materials.

The DevoVision app allows monitoring key elements such as heating settings and filament diameter in real time. In addition, the application allows the tracking of speed and screw rotation, which are visualized in graphs. These graphs can be easily exported to Excel for further analysis.

Material extrusion process

The 3devo Filament Maker extruder is an advanced device designed to convert pellets or ground plastic waste into high-quality 3D printing filament. The production process follows several key steps:

Material extrusion process

1. Feeding of raw material

Material in the form of pellets, ground waste or processed 3D prints is poured into the hopper. Thanks to a controlled feeding system, the raw material is evenly delivered to the extruder screw, ensuring process stability.

2. Melting and homogenization

The raw material is transported through the extruder screw to the heating zones, where it is gradually heated and plasticized. The 3devo Filament Maker uses precisely controlled temperature zones that ensure even melting of the polymer and its homogenization. Appropriate temperature and screw speed parameters produce a homogeneous mass without air bubbles or structural defects.

3. Filament extrusion and forming

The molten material passes through a nozzle with a precisely defined diameter, forming a continuous filament. A cooling system based on controlled circulation of air or water stabilizes the dimensions of the filament and prevents its deformation.

4. Diameter measurement and control

Built-in laser sensors continuously monitor the diameter of the filament, enabling automatic adjustment of process parameters to maintain a consistent dimensional tolerance. This results in a high-precision filament suitable for professional 3D printing applications.

5. Winding on the spool

The finished filament is evenly wound onto a spool using an automatic winding system that takes care of the proper tension and placement of the material. Once the process is complete, the filament is ready for use in 3D printers.
